Description

The Flatsheet MBR system is a laboratory-scale membrane bioreactor designed for wastewater treatment research using submerged flat sheet membrane modules. The system combines biological treatment with membrane separation in a single reactor, enabling researchers to study MBR performance under controlled conditions.

The reactor vessel includes an aeration system that supplies oxygen to the activated sludge biomass while also providing air scour to the membrane surface, reducing fouling. The flat sheet membrane module is submerged in the mixed liquor, and permeate is extracted by suction through a peristaltic or vacuum pump system.

This system is suitable for studying membrane fouling mechanisms in MBR environments, evaluating novel flat sheet membrane materials for MBR applications, optimizing operating parameters such as flux, aeration rate, and sludge retention time, and comparing flat sheet versus hollow fiber MBR configurations.
