The Tech Inc. Mixer-Settler Solvent Extraction Train separates individual metals from a purified leach solution. In each stage, the aqueous metal solution is mixed with an organic solvent that picks up one metal, and the two layers then separate in the settler. Stages in counter-current series extract, scrub and strip the target metal, allowing battery recyclers to recover nickel, cobalt and lithium as separate streams.
Main components
- Twelve mixer-settler stages, each with a pump-mix impeller and a settler with adjustable weirs
- Organic and aqueous interstage piping arranged for counter-current flow
- Extraction, scrubbing and stripping sections set to the flowsheet
- Alkali dosing for pH control on the extraction stages
- Organic storage, make-up and recovery tanks, with crud removal
- Interface level and flow instruments, with PLC control
- Covers, ventilation and earthing for solvent service
Applications: battery-recycling hydrometallurgy, separation of nickel, cobalt and lithium, purification of leach solutions, copper and cobalt solvent extraction, and rare-earth separation.
