Mud-Gas Separator and Desanding Skid

• Mud-gas separator (poor-boy degasser) – separates free gas from returning drilling mud and vents it to a safe location.
• Cyclonic wellhead desander – removes sand from the well stream at the wellhead, ahead of chokes and separators.

On drilling rigs, the mud-gas separator handles gas brought up with the mud and returns degassed mud to the mud system. During well testing, desanders and sand traps remove sand from the flow before the choke manifold and test separator. On sand-producing wells, wellhead desanders protect flowlines and production equipment from erosion and sand build-up.
