The Tech Inc. Compact SF6 Recovery and Filling Unit (model TI-SRU60) recovers SF6 from switchgear compartments and refills them, in a unit small enough to move by hand around a substation. It draws the gas out of the compartment, passes it through filters and a dryer, and stores it in gas cylinders or an external vessel for reuse. After maintenance it evacuates the compartment and refills it to rated pressure. No SF6 is vented at any stage.

Main components

  • Oil-free compressor and vacuum pump, proven components from leading makers
  • Particle filter and dryer cartridge
  • Valve manifold with pressure gauges and pressure switches
  • Connections for SF6 cylinders or an external storage vessel
  • Hoses with self-sealing couplings
  • Compact wheeled frame with carrying handles

Safety and environmental features

  • Pressure switches that stop the compressor at the set cylinder pressure, backed by a relief valve
  • Interlocks that keep the vacuum pump from discharging to atmosphere until the SF6 has been recovered
  • Self-sealing couplings that keep the gas in the hoses and switchgear when they are disconnected
  • Filters that capture decomposition products from arced gas, protecting operators and the stored gas
  • Emergency stop and fault alarms on the control panel

Applications: smaller GIS compartments, SF6 circuit breakers and gas top-ups at distribution and transmission substations, power plants and industrial sites.
