The Tech Inc. Flash-Drum Sampling Station, Design A, takes a representative sample from high-pressure crude and liquid hydrocarbon lines and transfers it into a closed 1-litre bottle without exposing the operator to line pressure, vapour or H2S. It is fully mechanical: no power and no instrument air, so nothing stops working when utilities are lost.

Design A was approved by Saudi Aramco at drawing stage and has been supplied in series to Saudi Aramco refineries, built to the approved drawing in our Chennai factory.

One cycle, four movements

  • Flush and vent – the 7-litre flash drum is flushed and vented to closed drain, so the sample is the stream as it flows now.
  • Fill under pressure – the drum fills at line pressure until the inlet and drum gauges agree.
  • Depressurise – the drum is vented until all three gauges read zero; only then does the pressure-actuated interlock release the sample path.
  • Collect and drain – spring-return sample and drain valves open only while held; the bottle uncouples on quick-release couplings.

Seven layers between the line and the operator

  • Pressure-actuated interlock valve holds the sample outlet shut while the drum is under pressure
  • Spring-return sample and drain valves that close when released
  • Double inlet block and check valve to SABP-A-109
  • Two high-range gauges cross-checking inlet and drum
  • Low-range residual gauge with over-pressure protector
  • Block-and-bleed on every gauge
  • Two-valve vent: venting needs two valves open together

Applications: wild, flashing and stabilised crude at wellheads, test headers and process lines; condensate and high-pressure liquid hydrocarbons; sour service.
